Dundee House

“Creating the right physical environment” for Social Security Scotland through the principles of dignity, fairness and respect

Dundee House | Social Security Scotland
Dundee

The Scottish Government appointed INCH to undertake an options appraisal for the refurbishment of the existing Dundee House - the present HQ for Dundee City Council - in response to the Scottish Government’s “Creating the Right Physical Environment” guidance for the provision of independent specialist consultancy advice for the Social Security Agency.

The design proposals respond to the Scottish Government’s requirement for space to accommodate delivery of the devolved responsibility for the administration of 11 welfare benefits going live from September 2018.

Delivery of this study assisted the Scottish Government by:
- Providing architectural guidance into methods of gaining a presence on the ground floor of Dundee House, which will support the delivery of public facing services.
- Responded to the need to create a space which meets the aspirations of the Scottish Ministers who seek to deliver benefit support in an open and accessible manner.
- Acknowledging and developing the findings of the report prepared by The Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (The Alliance)
- Providing a detailed access audit for users with cognitive and physical impairments.
-Providing a detailed interiors and signage strategy which incorporates the most recent evidence-based guidance on designing for neurodiverse individuals.
